1. Associazione Nazionale per la Lotta contro l’AIDS - Sez.Lombardia (Italy)

ANLAIDS has been founded on the 26th of July 1985. The Lombardy branch of ANLAIDS:

- Supports the Clinical Research.

- Promotes Studies and Researches on AIDS.

- Gives scholarships and grants.

- Organizes training courses for health care workers and volunteers.

- Promotes and improves life and health conditions of people living in the Developing countries.

- Organizes Health Education and Prevention campaigns by publishing pamphlets and implementing ad hoc activities in schools, work places and other meeting venues.

2. Bulgarian Family Planning and Sexual Health Association (Bulgaria)

The Bulgarian Family Planning and Sexual Health Association (BFPA) activities are oriented towards several main areas of work – access to health care services, sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), health and sexuality education, gender issues, generic cmapaigns and pR strategies on reducing stigma and discrimination, trafficking of human beings, sustainable development in terms of linkage between SRHR and poverty as well as towards prevention measures of HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted infections. The target groups of the organization are various and include mainstream young people, women in reproductive age, state, local and school authorities, health professionals, NGO and community leaders, teachers, journalists. BFPA puts special focus on marginalized and socially deprived groups – Roma, other ethnic minorities, blind and deaf children, PLHIV, young people with disabilities, rural women, children in institutions, young people with criminal record.

3. Regional Public Health Authority in Košice (Slovak Republic)

The Regional Public Health Authority in Košice:

- Monitors relations between health determinants and public health.

- Increases health literacy.

- Manages prevention of diseases and other defects of health.

- Deals with the influence of working conditions to health of workers.

- Orders and repeals measures for prevention of diseases.

- Coordinates surveillance of infectious diseases.

- Monitors quality of drinking water supply and quality of water for recreation.

- Monitors quality of food.

- Values interaction between important aspects of children and young population living conditions (environment, life style, nutrition) and their state of health.

- Observes the radiation burden of inhabitants in connection with natural and artificial radioactivity and regulates the radiation burden of patients and staff in connection of ionizing radiation in health services.

4. Terrence Higgins Trust

THT was one of the first charities to be set up in response to the HIV epidemic and has been at the forefront of the fight against HIV and AIDS ever since. THT has 25 years of experience in HIV prevention and sexual health promotion. Young people are one of our key target groups with whichwe work. We have experience in delivering numerous projects aimed at young people, including peer education, resource and campaign development.

Our objectives are:

- to reduce the spread of HIV and STIs and promote good sexual health;

- to campaign for greater public understanding of the personal, social and medical impact of HIV and sexual ill health.

5. “Stefan S. Nicolau” - Institute of virology

The Stefan S. Nicolau Institute of Virology of Bucharest (IVN) was founded in 1949. IVN is dedicated to both fundamental research and applied clinical studies in viral epidemiology, viral vaccines, viral nucleic acid infectivity, immunity in viral infections, antiviral chemotherapy.

In the last three years IVN has developed important research programs not only in the domain of viral diseases of public health relevance (AIDA, viral hepatitis, respiratory viral diseases, emerging viral diseases), but also in neurodegenerative and psychiatric disorders, cancer, antiviral and antitumoral therapy, with significant results in health care.

The Institute bridges the gap between clinical investigation and the application of basic science in order to understand the pathogenesis of the infectious diseases, their diagnosis and optimal management, prevention and control. Multidisciplinary groups are studying different aspects of infectious diseases> from epidemiology and field work, to patient’s care, from the relationship between the host immune response and the pathogen’s virulence factors, to molecular genetics and vaccine design.

Cross-cutting themes are addressed through cooperation with other Romanian and international research teams. Researchers involved in doctoral or post-doctoral programs are trained in IVN not only in virology, but also in related disciplines: biochemistry, biophysics, molecular biology, pharmacology, immunology and informatics. IVN has been frequently visited by policy makers from European countries, serving as a model for collaborative research.

IVN is located in a three floors building situated in Bucharest down town area, close to one of the main Bucharest Infectious Diseases Hospital.

The Institute mission is to support the national strategy in combating the infectious disease by:

- generating reports that increase the range, quality and relevance of the national agenda for health policy and medical practice;

- testing the practical application of new diagnostic technologies in various field conditions, thereby increasing their operational relevance;

- developing new antivirals and therapeutical technologies that meet the needs of health care practitioners.

6. Lithuanian AIDS center

LAC was established in 1989 by an order of the Minister of Health and placed outside pre-existing institutions and health care units. Centre’s mission – HIV/AIDS prevention and control in Lithuania to reduce population mortality from AIDS and morbidity of HIV disease. The Centre is also in charge for health care of population groups at higher risk to acquire HIV, of people with HIV and AIDS. The AIDS Centre includes the following departments: Laboratory, Outpatient Dep. (including Anonymous Testing Sites, Women’s Health Site, Harm Reduction Room, Youth Consultation Site, Target Group Health Site, Counselling Site, Public Education Dep., International Projects Dep., and Dependence Diseases Dep. (including Day Care Centre for Girls at Risk). The activity fields of the Centre are: care and treatment of people with HIV and AIDS, public education, laboratory testing, etc. anonymous testing and counselling, epidemiology surveillance and data evaluation, social rehabilitation of drug users, AIDS advocacy, etc.

7. Regional Institute of Public Health based in Ústí nad Labem

The Regional Institute of Public Health is a health-care facility estabilitished for basic preventive disciplines – hygiene, epidemiology, mikrobiology, immunology and occupation medicine. All activities are aimed on population in the Northern Bohemia particularly but cooperation in national and international projects is common. In the field of health promotion and disease prevention, RIHP concrentrates on the most urgent health problems – for example: HIV/AIDS and another infection (STI), healthy life style (prevention of obesity, drug and tobaco). We have consulting rooms for people which have risk of HIV infection in area Nothern Bohemia. This rooms exist in five places-cities in our region. Our workers – physicians, psychologist a nurses conduct counselling and testing persons with risk. The next activity is primary prevention in this field. This aims at the education of young people, students, pupils and the other groups with risk behaviour.

8. Network Persone Sieropositive Italia

NPS is a body in continuous evolution composed by a team that works in independent way and opened to other patients associations involved in the chronic diseases care for the common interest of the Health Right and the Quality of Life, collaborating with the different public institutions and the pharmaceutical companies in the mutual respect of the roles.

NPS objectives are:

- to provide information on the therapies and their collaterals effects;

- to fight for the uniformity of care of the sick people at national level, overcoming the disparity linked to the decentralization of the National Health care system, by means of the creation and the strengthening of regional and local networks with other Associations;

- to protect people living with HIV through information and awareness, making more easy the collaboration with the doctors in order to facilitate the job and to fight the prejudgments about this pathology;

- to update continuously on the new experimentations, giving evidence also to the ethical-social problems emerged with the new therapies of the pharmaceutical companies; - to disseminate lawful insurance and medical information;

- to fight the discrimination for the access and the maintenance of the job and cares;

- to make prevention;

- to act with such purposes in every region according to the local context and differences;

- to cooperate not only with people living with HIV but also with other associations that have the same objectives;

- in particular, to protect prisoners living with HIV.

9. Centrul Profilaxia s.r.l.

PROFILAXIA Medical Centre is a Preventive Medical Society.The main mission of the Centre is to contribute to communication development, reinforcement and the exchange of ideas and good practices in the field of CD Prevention between Decision makers, Health Professionals and the Community. 10. Counselling Service "Praxis Psychosoziale Beratung"

Since 1990 psycho-social counselling services for people with HIV and AIDS in the HIVCENTER at the Frankfurt university hospital “Klinikum der Johann Wolfgang Goethe-Universität” have been provided.

Psycho-social counselling services for patients with HIV and AIDS or other chronic diseases include:

• Questions regarding HIV-prevention.

• HIV- and AIDS-counselling.

• Social issues and labour laws, retirement pay, etc.

• Help in situations of acute crisis.

• Psychotherapeutic support.

• Assistance with regard to coping with the disease.

• Contacts to groups and other support services.

• Support of the patient’s compliance.

• HIV and AIDS-counselling, psychotherapy, supervision for institutions, companies, counselling services, self-help organisations, etc.

• Computer aided counselling, development of concepts and professional editing of materials for your web page, setting up of online information services for patients and experts.

Data bank with more than 8,000 addresses about different topics such as AIDS, drugs, public health departments, medicine, psychotherapy, self-help groups, and so on. Inquiries, research concerning different psycho-social topics and questions. Concept development and support with regard to public relations, publications of books and information brochures.

Planning, organisation and certification, training seminars addressing specific topics, meetings and seminars for self-help groups or groups working in the fields of social science, drug addiction, pharmacology or health.

11. Therapy Center for Dependent Individuals (KETHEA) Greece

KETHEA (acronym for Therapy Center for Dependent Individuals) is a non-profit organization that has been operating since 1983, when ITHAKI, the first Greek therapeutic community for drug addicts was established. ΚΕΤΗΕΑ, in special consultative status with the UΝ Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), is the first organisation set up in Greece (Law 1729787) for the purposes of treatment, prevention, professional training and research in the field of drug addiction. ΚΕΤΗΕΑ currently operates a nation-wide network of services and is been one of the principal implementation bodies of the Greek National Strategy against drugs. Αll services are provided free of charge and don’t employ pharmaceutical substances or substitutes for the treatment of addiction. They are designed to meet the needs of users with different profiles: adults, adolescents, prisoners, addicted mothers, migrants, etc. In addition, they are provided without any discrimination. ΚΕΤΗEA is board member of the World Federation of Therapeutic Communities (WFTC), of the European Federation of Therapeutic Communities (EFTC) and of the International Federation of "Non-Government Organisations for the Prevention of Drug and Substance Abuse (ΙFΝGΟ). It is a member" of the International Council on Alcohol and Addictions (ICAA), of the Prevention Network RADAR and a member of the forum of Family Therapy Training Institutes of the European Family Therapy Association (ΕFTΑ). ΚΕΤΗΕΑ is also associated with the UΝ Public Information Department (DΡΙ) aiming at providing information to large sectors of the society regarding drug related issues.
